From 5 to 10 December 2011, the Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations of the University of Warsaw, Prof. Włodzimierz Lengauer, and representatives of the Centre for Contemporary India Research and Studies (CCIRS) at the Institute of International Relations, University of Warsaw, Dr Jakub Zajączkowski and Dr Bogusław Zaleski, paid a visit to New Delhi. The aim of the trip was to establish closer cooperation with research centres and universities participating in the CCIRS project (financed by the European Union). During the visit, a number of meetings with Indian scholars and researchers took place. The topics of discussion included the possibility of financing joint research projects and cooperation concerning faculty and student exchange.
On 7 December, Prof. Lengauer, Dr Zajączkowski and Dr Zaleski took part in a seminar The European Union and India in International Relations: European and Indian perspectives, organised by the CCIRS, in cooperation with the India International Centre and Polish Embassy in New Delhi. The conference was opened by Prof. B.B. Bhattacharya (Indian Institute of Management-Lucknow (Noida Campus), former Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University), and the keynote speaker was Prof. Piotr Kłodkowski, Ambassador of Poland to India. Other participants of the seminar included: Pavel Svitil (Deputy Head of EU Delegation to India), Prof. Ummu Salma Bava (Jean Monnet Chair, Jawaharlal Nehru University), Prof. Rajendra K. Jain (Jean Monnet Chair, Jawaharlal Nehru University), Suresh K. Goel (Director General, ICCR), Commodore C. Uday Bhaskar (National Maritime Foundation), Prof. Arvind Kumar (Manipal University), Dr Shantanu Chakrabarti (Institute of Foreign Policy Studies, University of Calcutta) and Dr R. Pavananthi Vembulu (Assistant Director Centre for Study of Social Exclusion & Inclusive Policy Manonmaniam Sundaranar University).
On 8 December, the Polish delegation met with the Rector of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Prof. S. K. Sopory. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Harjit Singh, Principal Advisor for International Cooperation Dr S. Chandrasekaran, Director for Quality of Tuition. The discussions focused on cooperation between the University of Warsaw, the intensification of student and faculty exchange, as well as joint research projects. On the same day, Prof. Lengauer, Dr Zajączkowski and Dr Zaleski met with the Director of the Centre for European Studies, Prof. Rajendra K Jain, and the Dean of the School of International Studies, Prof. C. S. Raj. Afterwards a conference was held, entitled India and EU in the context of Global Economic Crises Polish and Indian Perspectives, attended by over 50 students. During his presentation, Prof. Lengauer encouraged students to visit the University of Warsaw.
On 9 December Prof. Lengauer met with representatives of the EU Delegation to India, Fernando Nino Page (Head of Economic Cooperation section) and Pavel Svitil (Deputy Head of EU Delegation to India). Discussions focused on new EU projects concerning scientific and research cooperation between the EU and India, Erasmus Mundus and the CCIRS project. The delegation also met with Vibha Puri Das (Secretary Department Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resources and Development). The meeting was attended by Ambassador Piotr Kłodkowski. The participants spoke about the support of the Indian government for the activities of the CCIRS, and establishing scientific cooperation between the University of Warsaw and Indian research centres. Later the delegation met with Suresh K. Goel (Director General, ICCR), Prof. Ved Prakshem (chairperson, University Grants Commission) and Dev Swarup (Joint Secretary, University Grants Commission).
Dinner was hosted by Polish Ambassador to India, Prof. Piotr Kłodkowski. During the dinner, discussions concerning cooperation were held with Rector of University of Calcutta, Prof. Suranjan Das, representatives of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Prof. S. Manickam (Registrar), Prof. P. Kannappan (DirectorCentre for Study of Social Exclusion & Inclusive Policy) and Dr R. Pavananthi Vembulu (Assistant Director Centre for Study of Social Exclusion & Inclusive Policy), as well as representatives of the Academy of International Studies and Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi. The delegation also met with representatives of the Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi University, including Institute Director, Prof. Bina Agarwal, Prof. B. Goldar, and members of the Indian Council of World Affairs: Director General Prof. Sudhir T. Deware and Dr Vijay Sakhuja (Research Director). Discussions concerned cooperation in developing courses on contemporary India and the organisation of joint seminars and conferences. In addition, Dr Jakub Zajączkowski met with representatives of the Francis and Taylor Group publishing house, and discussed cooperation between the CCIRS, Institute of International Relations and the publishing house.
